All my Betta's have passed on. Last month I got two of the cuties little girl betta's and I have two new males on order. Plan to change some of my water changing system on my tanks in hopes these live longer. Ever other day on my Betta tanks and every five on my goldfish.
The goldfish are doing great. Did lose one back in December. No clue why. But have two new goldfish and everyone is doing great. So uped the water changes and added a new canster filter in place of one of the HOB for more media room. The tank looks great.
So plan to change water in two of the small tanks every day and then on the 5th day do the goldfish tank.
The 10g is still doing well but I stopped changing water on it but ever three months. Its weird but with soil in it the tank just doesnt do well if you change the water a lot. I have guppies in there and have lots of babies. Time to cull I think here soon. Looks like Im up to about 12 fish in there.

Working on 10g

Been doing a little work on my 10g planted tank. Put those fish and the filter in the 75g. Little over stocked until I figure out the sex on my BN plecos so I can take some of them to the lfs. Now this 75g has 900 gph filteration. With lots of hornwort too. Ill try to get a picture up later today of all the changes.
I moved my 5g planted and two of my 1g jars to the stand the 30g was on. Moved the 1g fish tank from the bedroom on to my desk for better lighting. This set up should be easier to tend to the 30g was in a spot that was hard to get to for water changes.
Unfortantly during my water change for my 75g today my dang rynkin(sp) Mojo got sucked up in the pythan and now has a fat face. Hehe If I could find room for more Id get more.
After having the fancier kinds (Two halfmoons) I have decided those are not for me. They are much to picky about food water temp ect. To much worry and stress.
My 3 veiltail boys are great. Growing and happy. Just wish there was move of a color slection out there.
The goldfish are happy and growing. The Brustle(sp) noses are growing but still cant tell how is boy or girl. Hopefully not much longer.
For some reason I lost several of my white mountion cloud minnows in my 30g. Got up to 12 and now Im down to 4. Water is fine and they show no signs of illness they just show up dead. The 4 I have left are some of the babies from this year. I started out with five little over a year ago. Wonder if they died of old age? But then that wont explain the lost of the other 3 babies. Oh well sometimes things just happen.
My planted tanks are doing great and multiping. I now have three planted 1g tanks. Two are jars and one is a triagle tank (that I wont ever buy again) The Bettas in them seem to really like the set ups.
I know your not suppose to need to change the water in this style of low teck tank but I do anyway once a week. Moslty cause the halfmoon bettas fins get to looking rough if I dont. And it dont seem "natural" to not change the water.
Have a Blessed day.

Name change

Really need to redo this blog and change the address for it but then Id lose all my post. Oh well.
Anyway I no longer have any parrot fish. Of course if you have been reading you know that.
I recieved anouther betta today. This is the last one. I now have four and that is more then enough tanks and jars to take care of. Need to work on replacing jars with tanks.
I have been have huge problems with ammonia in my tap water. So far only tank that is taking this badly is my 10g and one of my 1g jars. Lost fish and a snail in the 10g and my Betta in the 1g has shreded fins. So got some bottled water and did changes on all my small tanks. The 30g and 75g well just have to ride it out till the city fixes the water. This should just be a tempary problem.
The picture is of my new Betta. He looks just like that too. I am very pleased with this fish.

Betta's

Well I now have three betta's. Sometimes betta's just take a notion and jump out of the tank.

Got the Betta Bug

Well my Shinner passed away so off to the pet shop for a new betta for my 5g. I got a blue veiltail. But then I got to looking at some of the Betta's offered for sale online and well he just wont do. So I ordered a white halfmoon. And bought and set up a small 1g planted tank. It is one of the strange trangle ones with a night light for a light. Four wats but I wont buy one of those again.
So I go to Wally World and stop buy the pet department and they had some very pretty white veiltails. I could not decide on just one so I got both. So now Im up to 3 betta's and still one on the way. hehe I have a 1g jar I was fooling around with that is planted. I moved it to a more visable location put the blue in it set up a 1g creater keeper with some floating plants for one of the white ones. Then put the other white one in the new 1g. When and if the ohter one gets her and it is alive it well go in my 5g planted tank.
Here are a couple pictures.

I knew but....

I knew that parrot fish were aggressive but never dreamed I would not like them. I had an oscar (alone) for 10 years I enjoyed him. But these parrot fish taking nips out of my pleco are really ticking me off.
So Im going to redo my 30g tank and those parrot fish are out of here. Along with all the others in the tank. Not sure what Im going to go with maybe a lot of small fish and some plants.
My goldfish are doing great and I have one more. I saw this cute black and red oranda. However I dont think it well stay this color. Its belly is white. I have had him about a month and so far the color has not changed at all which really surprises me.
the picture is the new goldfish.

Fish Fry

I trimmed back my crypts in my low tech 10g. I have some baby tears (Plants I hope to use for some growd coverage) coming in this week and needed the light to get more to the bottom of the tank and to be able to get them in there and not get tangled up in the crypt. I aslo moved a couple of the ones that had dislodged and taken root in the middle of the tank.

So after I was done I sit back to look at my handy work and noticed some strange "Bugs" in my tank. So I get really close to the tank and low and behold I have fry. Tiny blue/black fish. All I have in this tank is white cloud minnows.

I know they had been doing some breeding behavior. The males try to act like Betta. Puffing up and getting very bright in the white areas but I didn't know any eggs were laid. I have three males and three females if you go by thier behavior.

I have seen three. Might be more but dont think so. I watched the tank for over an hour and never saw more then three together.

Had to add some of my hornwart from anouther tank to make sure they had lots of places to hide. Hope they make it.

LIve web cam

At bottom of page but it well not work. Going to take two of my more agreesive parrots to the pet shop. Move the other two with rainbows and pleco to my 30g. (that I am replacing with a 45 bow front in Dec.) And then move all my goldfish into the 75.
Hope to do this today when I get back from the doctors. (just rutine stuff at the doctors today no big deal.)
I just dont enjoy the parrot fish as much as I thought I would. On the days they are nice to each other they are great but all the fighting stresses me out. The whole reason I own fish is to help me relax in the first place. lol
With this move the goldfish well be next to the computer where I spend most of my waking hours.
Ill be leaving two snails and the cory cats in the 75.

Planted tanks.

<img style="float:left; (Ill try to get a picture before I release him into the tank and post it later today.) At some point Ill have to trade him in or move the cory cats. But maybe Ill luck out and he well not make the average 12 inches they can get. I do have room in my 10g for the cories if I do that.
Hopefully the Pleco well be able to eat all the algea on the rocks. He is a nice looking fish so I look forward to seeing him grow. He/she is only about 2 inches now.
I also picked up a red cap goldfish. It is also very tiny. The pet shop was having a hug sale. Some stuff was marked down 70percent and I just could not resist this cute tiny goldfish. I may have a couple picktures of him later today too.

Pictures of 75g

Before it turned ugly.

My parrots are normal

Ok so now I know all that behavior was normal. I hate it. Fish tanks are suppose to be relaxing. At least for me anyway but this is not. I did the research and knew they did fight some but this is not some this is a lot and no fun. And to top it off all my gravel is turning green. I don't mind green on the sides or on the pots but this gravel thing makes it look so dirty. I take out my plants to clean them ever other week but no clue what to do about my gravel other then take it out and go bare bottom like I have on my goldfish tank. But I from what I have read thats not a good idea for parrot fish. Grrrrrr

Parrot Tank

All is not well in my tank. Yesterday Sonny was picking on Star. Just chasing him and he not even fighting back. Today Star is picking on Sonny. Now Im starting to wonder if this is normal behavior. I'm just not use to all this discord in my tank. I tend to lean towards goldfish behavior. I like a peacefull tank. But now I have them and just can't seem to get myself to part with them.
My husband thinks I should take them both up to the lfs and just keep the two white parrot fish. Not so sure they wont do the same things though when they get older.
Speaking of my goldfish. The orange/red fantail that had the single tail passed on yesterday. I think maybe he was deformed inside as well as outside cause there was no signs of illness. But I did notice he was not growing as much as the other. Poor guy at least he had a great home for his short life.

Parrot fish at it again

lol These guys think they can make babies. They have laid eggs for me three times now. The orange one (Sonny) is so protective of those useless eggs. I did my normal Saturday water change and had to "replant" some of the silk plants. So I had my hands in the tank and got attacked. Scared me to death. But I got a good laugh out of it.
My two white parrot fish are still not making friends with anyone. The tank seems to be divided. The larger of the white parrots stays on the right. The smaller one stays on the left and the "pair" of Blood Parrots say in the middle with the pot they like to lay eggs in. As long as this seems to work for them Ill not worry about it.
Im going to try and get some new pictures tonight. Think I am starting to use pictures I have already post up here.

Pictures of 75g

This is the latest picture of my tank. Moved one of my fantail goldfish yesterday cause he was pushing the other fish. But moved him back cause he was sitting like a lump in the "QT" tank all by himself. Been keeping an eye on him but so far he is not pushing yet.
I am a little concerned about my parrots too. I have four cause if you just have three you could have an odd man out problem. But even with four seems I have an odd man out. lol The smaller of the two white parrot fish is always on one side of the tank by himself except at feeding time. He is also not growing like the rest. Wonder if he needs to go in the "QT" tank so he can get more food and grow. But worried if I do that when the time comes to put him back they might start going after him. Might be best to let it play out.

The new fish is still alive

He is still alive and active. Lol I need a new light for this tank too but this picture at least gives an idea how Perdido looks.

I fell in love with him cause of the tail. So far he is doing well in the 10g tank. He only eats off the bottom of the tank. This is going to make it somewhat harder to teach him to eat out of my hand. But that is the only way I think I can move him in with the others when I get my new tank in December. I guess he can live in the 10g if he never learns but would like to see him with my other goldfish. Only trouble is my others never let food hit the bottom of the tank and he would not get to eat.

The JellyBeans (Sand Dollor and Foley) are doing great. I was afraid she would over feed and with the tank problems I was having that would be bad.
But maybe I should of at least explained the water heaters to her. It seems something (I think my cat) bumped my heater and now 6 of my 7 cory cats are dead and three more rainbows. On top of that the bodies are no where to be found so I guess the parrot fish ate anyway.
I tested the water and it is perfect other then the temp being 94 degrees.
On the bright side I come home with three new fish. I found a great pet shop and we stopped on the way home and got me 2 jellybean parrot fish and one black moore with a broadtail.
That over stocks my 30g for now but I have a 1o that is cycling and Ill move it to there in a few weeks. That well work out till I get my new 36g bow front I have my eye on.
Also not a trace of ich in the 75g with the water that high for so long maybe it is gone for good. lol

Its gone again

Woot the ich is gone again. Wonder for how long? lol Looks like for a while I need to treat for ich everytime I change the water. Cause that is when it seems to show up.
I have also bumped the tank to 84 may leave it that high for at least two weeks. Then maybe lower it if I am still ich free.
It has been years since I have had do deal with this and it is a pain. Now I know why some bigginners never get into fish keeping. This ich makes you want to throw fish and tank out the window.
So glad I didnt lose any fish.

Almost gone again

For some reason I have one little fish that the ich wont come off off. It seems they like his taste or something. I have one more dose of meds Im suppose to give. The meds has ruined the look of my tank by turning stuff blue but I had to do something different to get rid of the ich. The ich attack wasnt doing it.
But at least all my fist are still alive. The parrot fish seem to enjoy the higher temptures. It makes their color so much brighter. But of corse my poor cories hate it. Maybe they could get use to it. At this point Im afraid if I lower it the ich well return and I am so sick of that stuff.
On the other hand my other two tanks look great. This picture is of my baby Rykin. Nope no name. Normally I dont name my fish. The only fish I have right now that has a name is my betta Shimmer. Oh ya and the star of my Parrot fish tank is of course Star. Maybe in time the others well grow names too.

Ich again and again and ....

I am so sick of this. If I didnt have a the dang parrots this tank would be broke down and I would start over. My rainbows are covered in ich and I have lost one of them already. I am using a different treatment this time in hopes to get it gone and keep in gone. It suppose to be a one dose treatment but from the looks of things Ill have to treat again later this morning. Only problem is right now the city has a boil water adversary out so it is going to take forever to change out the 25 % I need to do before the next treatment. He presented a review of fish awareness science last week to a conference of the Australian Veterinary Association in Hobart, Tasmania.
NI_MPU('middle');
The findings give some support for the arguments of Elliot Morley, the former environment minister, who argued for a ban on goldfish being given away at fairgrounds on the grounds of cruelty. He was forced to back down because Labour feared mockery in the run-up to the general election.
Among the studies cited by Loh was one carried out by British scientists in which fish learnt to push levers at particular times of the day to gain access to food. In another, two fighting fish were placed with an observer fish in a tank. For a long time afterwards the observer avoided swimming too close to the fish that had won the fight.
The studies also found substantial evidence that fish have the brain structures to feel pain and avoid dangers which may hurt them.
Loh said that many university committees looking at the ethics of experimenting on animals now gave equal consideration to fish.
In their paper — Ornamental Fish: Making Fish Smile, Sing and Dance — Loh and Matt Landos, his colleague, write: “Experiments on fish have examined the capacity of the fish to retain learnt information and be aware of consequences of certain responses . . . It has been established that fish do have some memory which can be recalled.”
Landos said: “We’re wanting to get the message out to vets to start looking more closely at fish and considering their welfare like they do other animals.”

Hiding

Well after little over two weeks the tank is now ich free. I didn't post it but my other fantail died last week. Not sure whats going on there. The water was fine and he showed no signs of illness. Just woke up one morning and he was dead.
Someone suggested that this time of year was bad for the smaller goldfish to travel. I have never heard this before but decided to give the theory a try and I bought larger fantails this go around and from a different pet shop. They are both gold fantails but one only has a singe tail not a double. Does that still make him a fantail? The pet shop had an 8 inch long goldfish in it. No I did not buy it cause not enough finage for me but still it was a pretty fish. Wonder if it is still there? They are going 90 mph all over the tank but I have yet to see them eat anything. My cories are always sifting threw the rocks eating the bits and pieces that make it past the BP's but them clowns don't ever seem to be looking for food. It is still there this morning so either it is to big for them to eat or they are not eating at all.
Guess Ill search the net see what else I can find out about their eating habits. That may of been a bad idea. It is so skinny and I don't think it ate a thing all week. When I bought it, it was nice a plump. The guy told me(I have been dealing with this guy for years) that the fish came in with ick and for three weeks it was in the back in the sick tank. Once he put it up front it seemed to of stopped eating. He speculated it was all the lights and other fish in the tank. So I brought him home took my one betta from my 5g tank (this is just temparary arrangement) and put the blueberry in the 5g it is well planted so he has lots of places to hide. Best I can tell he is not eating. I decided to stick a snail in there(have lots of those and can get more easy) I figure that is the best way to know if or when he starts eating.
Monday I'll call the pet store see if they have any answers now that we know for sure he is not eating. Such a pretty fish hate to see him not make it.
On the bright side other then one of my clown loaches needing better color they seem to be doing great in the 75g. Right now they hang out a lot with the Parrot Fish. I even saw one swimming backwards yesterday. So cool.

Water Test

Did water test on the 75g this morning. Keep the one fish that is in it but maybe add some plant gravel. I have had this tank set up since Jan. But the plants just won't take root and I keep having to stick them back in the gravel. But I sure would like the clowns.
Matt the goldfish is doing swimmingly still.

Brain storm

I don't know why I didn't do this before. My 30 gallon tank has the same size filter as my 75 gallon so this morning I switched filters on those two tanks. That should make a fast cycle on the 75.
Star and No name are still up and going 90 miles an hour.
Now I well have to wait on the loaches. They are supper fussy about their water so they well have to go in after the tank is officially cycled.
Matt my fantail goldfish is looking good too. Still not eating the pellets to good he never seems to see them till they hit the rocks and he is to lazy to go after them. Silly fish.

Blog Just For My Fish

I reset up my 75 gallon and my husband made a joke about it lasting till I got old tank syndron. I have gotten some long lived fish for this tank and really need to keep it up for a long time. Thought maybe a blog would help keep me into this tank so to speak.
The 75 is the home of two parrot fish, 7 cories, 3 clown louches(to be added later) and one blueberry louch(on hold and to be added later).
I still have my 5 gallon planted tank on my bed side table with my one fighting fish.
Also have my 30 gallon up with my one gold fish and 6 snails.
We did own an oscar for 10 years but that was my husbands and he did all the upkeep on that one. It was much in need of a bigger tank and we were not willing to buy 125 g so it went to someone that had one and the room for the fish.
I look forward to watching my new friends grow. The picture is of Star and friend. Do not have a name for the other yet.
